Assumption University of Thailand (AU) convened Academic Senate Meeting 3 for Academic Year 2025 on April 22, 2026, at Coronation Hall, Hua Mak Campus, where university leaders, deans, and academic representatives reviewed key academic priorities, curriculum development plans, quality assurance matters, and strategic directions for the year ahead.
The meeting served as an important platform for aligning the University’s academic operations with institutional goals for quality, accountability, and long-term development. Throughout the day, members of the Academic Senate considered a broad range of issues related to teaching and learning, curriculum management, program development, school performance, and cost effectiveness.
A Broad Review of Academic Management
During the morning session, the Senate approved the minutes of the previous Academic Senate Meeting and received a series of reports on academic planning and curriculum management for Academic Year 2026.
Among the items presented were the schedule of Academic Senate meetings and school discussions for the coming academic year, as well as follow-up reports on teaching and learning. Members reviewed curriculum management reporting timelines, including lecturers’ office hours, academic advising, thesis advisor-to-student ratios, course reports, and AUN-QA assessment documentation.
The meeting also addressed the implementation of the online lecturers’ office hours system, which was introduced in Semester 1/2026 as part of the University’s continued efforts to strengthen accessibility, advising support, and academic communication.
Curriculum Development and Academic Planning
A major portion of the session focused on curriculum development. The Senate reviewed academic programs for Academic Year 2026, along with the schedule and process for new program proposals and program modifications. Members also discussed program evaluation timelines, changes in program faculty membership, and the broader master plan for curriculum development.
These discussions reflected AU’s continued emphasis on maintaining academic relevance while ensuring that programs remain responsive to student needs, quality expectations, and changing educational environments.
Quality Assurance, Risk Management, and Leadership Improvement
Under matters for consideration, the Senate reviewed proposals related to school short courses under the Credit Bank System and presentation requirements for each school’s performance report and management plan.
The meeting also underscored the importance of academic personnel qualifications, noting that responsible persons for programs and faculty members must hold qualifications aligned with the major field of the curriculum.
Further discussion centered on monitoring active memoranda of understanding and reviewing University-wide quality assurance priorities. These included risk management planning, the AU Strategic Plan 2026, the five-year and one-year planning framework, the future direction of the AU Strategic Plan 2027, and institutional improvement efforts in leadership.
The discussions reflected the University’s intention to balance academic growth with strong governance, effective planning, and measurable quality outcomes.
Looking Ahead
The Senate also noted several upcoming institutional matters, including the Annual Faculty Seminar 2026, scheduled for Friday, May 29, 2026, at the John XXIII Conference Center, AU, Suvarnabhumi Campus, as well as future discussions related to an open house and the proposed change from “School” to “Faculty” in University nomenclature.
In the afternoon session, members turned their attention to cost effectiveness, examining revenue and expenditure per student, break-even enrollment by school, facilities and buildings, extra pay and part-time lecturers, and planning for teaching and learning during periods of uncertainty.
Taken together, the meeting reflected AU’s ongoing commitment to academic quality, institutional resilience, and thoughtful planning across all levels of the University.
