As far as we are aware, the current ongoing protests by the Red Shirts Movement is clearly political and in no way linked or related to academic activities.  While noting this fact, we are gratified to say that Assumption University of Thailand’s two campuses at Hua Mak and Suvarnabhumi are far away from protest activities. The study and living situations of all students, Thai and International, are well secured through extensive and intensive security on campuses and within their immediate surroundings.
(more detail)

In view of the current situation in some downtown areas of Bangkok, students who may have difficulties coming to class at either campus can study at home. Current situations around Suvarnabhumi and Hua Mak campuses, and the contingency plans for Assumption University students at AU residence and private dormitories at Suvarnabhumi campus.

Following the University’s announcement to postpone the commencement of undergraduate programs for 2/2011 semester to November 14th, 2011, as a result of currently wide-spreading inundation in surrounding provinces of Bangkok and certain areas in Bangkok, the University would like to update students, parents and AU community of the situations in Hua Mak and Suvarnabhumi areas, where the University’s two campuses are located as follows.

1.     The two campuses at Hua Mak and Suvarnabhumi are at present not affected by the inundation.  The University’s decision to postpone the commencement of all undergraduate programs for semester 2/2011 is due to the inconvenience, transportation difficulties, and safety caused by the inundation, and the growing concerns of students, officers, and faculty members residing in the flooding areas, or the areas that would potentially be affected.

2.    The University’s administrators have been continuously and closely monitoring the situations.  In addition, the University’s task force has also been monitoring the drainage networks as well as water level in various canals on the Eastern part of Bangkok, in particular Bang Sao Thong and Phra Ong Chao canals near Suvarnabhumi campus.
Assumption University’s Suvarnabhumi campus is located at Kilometer 26 on Bangna -Trad road, and is located in the Eastern flood way area, (Chonlaharn Pichit Project), which Suvarnabhumi Airport is also situated.  The project comprises 11 Irrigation Department’s stations with 119 large water pumps, each of which has a drainage capacity of 421 cubic meters of water per second or 30 million cubic meters of water per day.

3.    The University’s representatives have continuously updated and discussed the situations with Bang  Sao Thong district’s Sheriff, Samuth Prakarn province’s governor, and private dormitory’ operators in the vicinity of Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi campus to map out measures and action plans so as to be able to provide necessary assistance to students who at present are residing in the University’s residence as well as private dormitories nearby the University in case the surrounding area is flooded.

4.    Notwithstanding the low prospect that the Suvarnabhumi campus would be affected by the flood, the University has already devised the plan to relocate students in the University’s residence as well as those in the private dormitories to Assumption College, Sriracha, Chonburi province, which can be accessed within one hour drive from Suvarnabhumi campus via Burapha Vithee Tollway and Motor Way number 7 in case that the surrounding area is flooded.

5    In cooperation with many government agencies and private organizations, the University has established “the ABAC Flood Relief Service Alliance Center” (ABAC Flood R-SA) with an aim of rendering the needed assistance to the inundated victims through the support of volunteered Assumption University students and various donors.

Interested persons can find more details regarding the ABAC Flood R-SA Center at “Facebook: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.”, or call 02-719-0470– 4

Subject: Assumption University hereby confirms that the opening date for classes for the Undergraduate Semester 2/2011 is November 28, 2011 at the Hua mak and Suvarnabhumi campuses.

We welcome all students back to classes and hope that the turbulence and sufferings of the unprecedented floods will be left behind us as we move forward to our agenda of learning.  To the Faculty, staff and students who have been directly affected by the floods, we offer our sympathies and solidarity.

Through the efficient coordination of the Deans, Chairpersons and program directors, we have been able to mount on to the University’s LMS some of the learning materials for courses.  We shall leave the materials online for students to further refer to them.  However, the University LMS does not substitute class attendance and participation.

Kindly recheck the Mid-Term and Final Examination Schedules and the dates for the closing of Semester 2/ 2011 and the dates for 3/ 2011.

We wish all our students the very best in their studies.

The daily class schedules for all courses will be extended by 15 minutes to the existing duration of 90 minutes (105 minutes per class session / two contact sessions per week) to allow for the minimum required number of 45 hours for each course. Assumption University International Students:

Assumption University assures all international students that it is monitoring the situation of the floods currently affecting many parts of Bangkok, including the potential threats in the immediate vicinity of Suvarnabhumi campus.

As of the present moment, both our university campuses are dry. The floodwaters are in some parts of Bangkok city before they exit into the Gulf of Thailand - and, even if and when they do come to our two campuses, they will be weakened because of the heightened siphoning activity by the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority. There is no immediate threat or cause for alarm.

Office of Human Resources Management

As of July 29, 2015

There was a malware named “CTB-Locker” spread out over the Internet recently. It encrypted all data files of the infected computers and they was unable to use. The hacker who sent the malware will send an email asking for ransom to decrypt those files. However, they may not decrypt your files even you pay for it.

The malware usually came as attachments of an e-mail. The attachments could be any name with any extensions. Once you double-click to open the malware, it will take about 8 to 10 minutes to encrypt all data files in your computer.

There is no anti-virus that can detect this malware accurately. The best way to protect yourself is to not open unknown e-mail and you should recheck to the sender before open attachment files.

There is no anti-virus that can recover your files except using the “Shadow Volume Copy” feature of the Windows 7 and higher. However, many computers disabled this feature. You may also keep the “public key” which will display once you infected the malware. This key may help to decrypt your files later on.
