VMES student reaches the women’s doubles semifinals with Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn at the international Super 100 event in Pontianak
Assumption University of Thailand (AU) celebrated another international sporting success as Sabrina Sophita Wedler, a student of the Vincent Mary School of Engineering, Science and Technology (VMES), claimed bronze in the Women’s Doubles at the Polytron Pontianak Indonesia Masters 2026 in Pontianak, Indonesia.
Sabrina partnered with Thailand’s Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn in a strong run through the international field. Seeded No. 8, the pair advanced to the semifinals after defeating Indonesia’s Lanny Tria Mayasari and Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo 21-15, 21-13 in the quarterfinals.
Their semifinal was a thriller. Sabrina and Ornnicha pushed Chinese Taipei’s Chou Yun-an and Ko Ruo-hsuan to the limit in both games before falling 23-21, 23-21. The semifinal finish secured third place and a bronze medal in the Women’s Doubles event.
Engineering Talent with a Competitive Edge
Sabrina’s result put a bright spotlight on VMES, showing how AU students continue to make their mark well beyond the classroom. Competing at an international badminton tournament while pursuing university studies reflects the discipline, preparation, and focus demanded in both arenas.
Her performance also added another proud chapter to Assumption University’s tradition of encouraging students to pursue excellence across academics, sport, leadership, and campus life. For the AU community, the medal is more than a podium finish. It is a reminder of what can happen when talent meets determination and opportunity.
