Packaging did much more than make food look good. Assumption University students explored the science behind keeping food fresh, safe and ready for consumers during a special guest lecture held on August 27, 2026, at the Hua Mak Campus.
The Theophane Venard School of Food Biotechnology and Innovation welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Theeranun Janjarasskul for a session titled “Packaging and Its Role in Shelf-Life Extension.” The lecture formed part of FT4145 Packaging Design and Innovation and was held in Room E25.
Dr. Janjarasskul brought substantial academic and research experience in food packaging into the classroom. Her work has examined edible and biodegradable packaging, oxygen-scavenging films, food preservation and the relationship between packaging and product stability. Her research has also included work at the University of California, Davis, where she collaborated with food packaging specialist Prof. John M. Krochta.
Throughout the session, students examined how packaging can influence food quality, safety and shelf life, connecting material selection, barrier properties and food protection with practical applications in the food industry.
The guest lecture gave students an opportunity to connect concepts from Packaging Design and Innovation with real-world research and professional experience. The lively session encouraged discussion and offered students a closer look at how thoughtful packaging design can help preserve quality while responding to changing consumer and industry needs.
Dr. Janjarasskul’s connection with the UC Davis Alumni Thailand Chapter added an international dimension to an engaging morning of learning and exchange.
The successful session reflected the Theophane Venard School of Food Biotechnology and Innovation’s commitment to bringing experienced specialists into the classroom and connecting academic learning with developments across food science and innovation.
