Languages became a bridge to a brighter future as Assumption University’s Institute for English Language Education (IELE), Theodore Maria School of Arts, hosted IELE Language Café 1-2026 from September 2 to 3, 2026, at CL Plaza.
Students, faculty members, alumni, partners and members of the public gathered for two days devoted to language, cultural diversity and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Nida Boonma, Director of the Institute for English Language Education, opened the event and highlighted the power of language learning to encourage intercultural understanding and prepare students to participate confidently in an increasingly connected world.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Language Café transformed language practice into a lively social experience through interactive activities, cultural performances and SDG-themed games.
Activities were organized by IELE and programs from the Theodore Maria School of Arts, including Business English, Business French, Business Chinese, Business Japanese, English-Chinese for Digital Communication and General Education.
The Assumption University Alumni Association, Graduate School of Human Sciences and other partners also contributed to the program.
Students had opportunities to use English beyond the classroom, meet new people and explore important global issues in a welcoming environment. Cultural activities encouraged participants to appreciate different perspectives while discovering how communication could bring communities closer together.
An Open House Opens New Possibilities
A special highlight on September 3 was Arts Open House 2026, which welcomed approximately 300 high school students and teachers from schools across Thailand.
The visiting students experienced the international character of Assumption University and learned more about the language and communication programs offered by the Theodore Maria School of Arts.
By bringing together different languages, cultures and generations, IELE Language Café 1-2026 strengthened connections throughout the AU community and reflected the University’s commitment to international education and sustainable development.
The event showed that learning a language could do much more than expand a vocabulary. It could open conversations, deepen understanding and help build a brighter world.
