Two campus ceremonies united the Assumption University community through homage, music and original poetry
Assumption University of Thailand paid tribute to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua through two homage-paying ceremonies held ahead of His Majesty’s birthday anniversary on July 28.
Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of Assumption University of Thailand, led administrators, faculty members, staff, students and alumni in respectfully presenting the University’s tribute to His Majesty the King.
At Suvarnabhumi Campus, members of the AU community registered and assembled at 9:45 a.m. in the King’s Room on the first floor of the Cathedral of Learning. The homage-paying ceremony began at 10 a.m.
The observance continued at Hua Mak Campus in the afternoon. Participants registered and assembled at 3:15 p.m. at Salle d’Expo in A Building before the second ceremony began at 3:30 p.m.
Both campus programs followed the same ceremonial sequence. The President presented the University’s tribute to His Majesty, followed by the singing of the Royal Anthem by all participants and the presentation of felicitous poems in Thai and English.
Each ceremony concluded with participants singing “Sadudee Jomracha,” bringing the AU community together in a collective expression of loyalty, gratitude and reverence. Members of the community were encouraged to wear yellow in honor of the occasion.
Two Languages, One Tribute
The literary program included an English poem by Ajarn Glen Vivian Chatelier and a Thai poem by Dr. Nanta Thongtaweewattana, Senior Lecturer in the Theodore Maria School of Arts.
Written in different languages and poetic traditions, both works honored His Majesty’s benevolence, royal duties and dedication to the happiness, health and unity of the Thai people.
Ajarn Glen’s poem celebrated His Majesty’s work in promoting happiness, good health, neighborliness, peace and Thai values at home and abroad.
Dr. Nanta’s Thai poem reflected on His Majesty’s continuation of the royal work of his royal father, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great. It praised His Majesty’s far-reaching vision, perseverance and commitment to national development.
Central to Dr. Nanta’s poem is the ทศพิธราชธรรม, or Ten Royal Virtues. Its verses also honor His Majesty’s patience, compassion, equanimity and devotion to his royal responsibilities.
The closing stanza speaks on behalf of Assumption University’s administrators, faculty members, staff, students and alumni, invoking sacred blessings for His Majesty’s good health, happiness and long reign.
A University Community United
Together, the two ceremonies and literary tributes reflected Assumption University’s enduring respect for the monarchy and gave the AU community a shared occasion to offer its heartfelt wishes to His Majesty the King.
Assumption University expressed its sincere appreciation to the Office of Thai Art and Culture, Student Affairs, for organizing and coordinating the observances at both campuses.
The University also thanked the administrators, faculty members, staff, students, alumni and campus support teams whose participation and assistance helped make both ceremonies meaningful, dignified and successful.
