Bold New Ties: AU and Tunghai University Launch Dual Master’s Degree Partnership

In a distinguished celebration of international academic collaboration, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) and Taiwan’s Tunghai University (THU) formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on May 2, 2024, establishing a dual master’s degree partnership. The ceremony, held at AU’s Suvarnabhumi Campus, was highlighted by the official signing and the presentation of the Distinguished Contribution Award to Dr. Kuo-En Chang, President of Tunghai University, and Mr. Sheng-Hsiung “Rock” Hsu, founder of Cal-Comp Electronics (Thailand) Public Company Limited and Group President of Taiwan’s Kinpo Group.

Presiding over the ceremony was Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of AU, recognized for his thoughtful leadership and enduring commitment to academic excellence and global engagement. He was joined by Dr. Kuo-En Chang, President of Tunghai University.

This partnership brings together AU’s Master of Science in Business and Economics, housed within the Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics (MSME), and THU’s highly regarded Executive MBA program. The collaboration is expected to serve as a model for international academic cooperation, fostering regional leadership and supporting sustainable enterprise development.

The celebratory occasion welcomed a distinguished delegation of academic and industry leaders, including:

  • Cheng Liu and Dr. Chia-Hsiu Chang, Vice Presidents of THU, and Dr. Min-Hsun Liao, Chief International Officer of THU, recognized for their leadership in global academic outreach and dedication to strengthening international education networks.
  • Chieh-Li Hsu, Chairman of the Board of Cal-Comp, honored for his strategic vision and ongoing efforts to advance university-industry collaboration.
  • Chainarong Rungruengarporn, Dean-Designate of MSME, admired for his dynamic academic leadership, who also unveiled the official dual-degree office plaque during the ceremony.
  • Nichanan Sakolvieng, Dr. Pathathai Sinliamthong and Dr. Piyawan Puttibarncharoensri, Assistant Deans of MSME, commended for their instrumental roles in advancing the school’s mission and programs.
  • Sy-Chi Doong, Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand, who joined as a guest of honor in recognition of the significance of the occasion.

The event also featured the unveiling of the AU-MSBE/THU-EMBA dual-degree office plaque.

A highlight of the event was the conferment of the Distinguished Contribution Award to both Dr. Kuo-En Chang, renowned for his forward-looking vision and dedication to holistic education, and Mr. Sheng-Hsiung Hsu, a pioneering figure in the global electronics sector. With a career spanning more than five decades, Mr. Hsu is the founder of Kinpo Electronics and currently serves as President of Kinpo Group. In his heartfelt remarks, Mr. Hsu emphasized the transformative power of education in uplifting communities and reshaping industries.

The ceremony concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts, symbolizing mutual respect and a shared vision for continued collaboration. The gathering closed on a warm and convivial note as guests mingled in the King’s Room, celebrating the successful beginning of a promising academic partnership.
