On the auspicious occasion of Brother Martin Prathip Komolmas' 90th birthday, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) takes a moment to reflect on the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of a man of unwavering faith and uncanny intuition—a true visionary. Brother Martin's remarkable journey, whose life story reads like an epic novel, serves as a living testament to the indomitable power of faith, intuition, and an unrelenting commitment to education.

Brother Martin's formative years were spent in his mother's tranquil village, yet fate's design soon called him back to the vibrant streets of Bangkok, where he embarked on an extraordinary educational odyssey. Guided by the compassionate embrace of Catholic sisters and fortified by the unwavering support of priests, he achieved a profound milestone by earning his Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Loyola College, University of Madras, India, at the youthful age of 25.

However, Brother Martin's thirst for knowledge knew no bounds. He earned two Master’s degrees, studying International Development Education and Social Sciences in Education at the prestigious Stanford University. Additionally, he holds a doctorate in Organization Development and Planning from Southeast Asia's Interdisciplinary Development Institute. The accolades continue, with seven honorary doctorates bestowed upon him by institutions of renown across the globe.

Brother Martin's star shines brightest in the realm of education. Throughout his illustrious career, he has dedicated himself to the betterment of educational institutions, tirelessly serving on school boards and advisory committees. His most transformative tenure, spanning from 1978 to 2002, saw him at the helm of Assumption University as its Rector. Under his visionary leadership, the university campus blossomed, witnessing the birth of iconic structures such as the modern marvel of Suvarnabhumi Campus and the magnificent Cathedral of Learning.

Central to Brother Martin's vision for Assumption University was the creation of a campus in a park, seamlessly blending Western and Thai architectural elements. The resulting environment is not just aesthetically pleasing but also harmonious, reflecting an international community, with students hailing from over 70 different nationalities.

In his own humble words, Brother Martin once stated, "I have only one wish for myself, and that is that I have the time to finish my work before I die." His unwavering faith and uncanny intuition have steered him in making critical decisions, often with resounding success.

"Education is the most effective means to liberate man from ignorance and poverty," emphasized Brother Martin. His educational philosophy is rooted in holistic development, nurturing physical, intellectual, emotional, and moral faculties while kindling the creative spark within each individual.

Brother Bancha, President and Rector Magnificus of Assumption University, aptly describes Brother Martin as a mentor and guiding light. "His ability to connect with diverse individuals is exceptional, and his foresight is unparalleled."

Yet, Brother Martin's impact transcends academia. His unique gift lies in nurturing creativity and innovation in others, paving the way for groundbreaking initiatives such as curricula emphasizing management and entrepreneurship.

His commitment to unity and collaboration is profound, as manifested in his vision of shared facilities fostering a sense of community and cooperation on campus. These visionary ideas have been transformed into reality, creating an environment where collective aspirations flourish.

Brother Martin's enduring success can be attributed to his unwavering faith and sincerity, treating every individual with fairness and respect.

As we gather to celebrate Brother Martin Prathip Komolmas' 90th birthday, Assumption University pays homage to a man whose life serves as a testament to the transcendent power of faith, intuition, and the transformative potential of education.
