WRITER: CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT ASSUMPTION UNIVERSITY

On June 21, 2023, Assumption University of Thailand (AU), and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand held a Consular Protection on Campus Activity at Amaretpitak Room, CL Building, Assumption University, Suvarnabhumi Campus.

Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President of AU, Ms. Pan Jin, Minister Counsellor and Consul General of the Embassy of China in Thailand, Ms. Feng Junying, Education Counsellor of the Embassy of China in Thailand, Prof. Wang Huan, from the Embassy of China in Thailand, Mr. Sorana Arunrat, Dean of Student Affairs of AU, Assoc. Prof. Yang Hairong, Director of Confucius Institute at Assumption University (CIAU), and our Chinese students from different faculties attended the activity. The opening ceremony was hosted by Mr. Glen Vivian Chatelier, Director of the Office of International Affairs.

The Embassy of China in Thailand is planning to organize a series Consular Protection on Campus Activities in Thailand. As the first stop, AU is the starting point for the activity series.This offline event also marked the embassy’s first on-campus consular protection initiative since the pandemic.

Mr. Kong Zhulei, Second Secretary of the Embassy of China in Thailand, provided an overview of Consular Protection during the activity. He advised the students to familiarize themselves with the embassy’s contact information and emergency hotlines in Thailand, emphasizing the importance of having access to assistance in times of danger. Additionally, he offered valuable suggestions to Chinese students regarding travel, transportation, and COVID-19 precautions.
Prof. Wang Huan, First Secretary of the Embassy of China in Thailand, focused on Psychological Counseling. She emphasized the importance of students having a proper understanding of psychological stress. She encouraged students to familiarize themselves with Thai culture and advised them to actively engage in student union activities, establish connections with others, avoiding feelings of isolation.


During the Q&A session, the students actively raised questions and engaged in discussions related to safety in Thailand, job prospects for staying in Thailand after graduation, and available employment channels.

The Consular Protection on Campus Activity further strengthens the communication and collaboration between Assumption University and the Embassy of China in Thailand. Through this event, our Chinese students had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the mission and responsibilities of the Chinese embassy, acquire relevant knowledge regarding consular protection, and enhance their safety awareness and preparedness during their overseas studies.
