In the Summer of 2023, a group of adventurous UC Davis students embarked on an extraordinary academic adventure, traveling to the stunning nation of Thailand to participate in an intensive microbiology program at Assumption University. Over the course of a month, these 22 spirited students, led by Professor Emeritus Glenn M Young, delved into an environment teeming with biodiversity and rich culture, creating memories to last a lifetime.
This unique international experience offered the students an opportunity to blend their academic pursuits with exploration of Thailand's Land of Smiles. Throughout their stay, they navigated the bustling streets of Bangkok, explored the historic city of Chiang Mai, and basked in the beauty of the island paradise of Phuket.
One of the students, Jake Medicoff, a sophomore from UC Davis, enthusiastically shared his personal experiences with the academic program and Thai culture. "My interest in Asia and a passion for beaches and snorkeling made Thailand the perfect destination," said Jake. Beyond their dedication to microbiology studies at Assumption University, the students had the chance to immerse themselves in the sights and experiences that Thailand had to offer.
Jake expressed his appreciation for his time at Assumption University, praising the welcoming atmosphere and the friendly campus community. One of the highlights of his Thai adventure was a visit to an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai, where he had the privilege of observing these majestic creatures in their natural environment.
