The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science (BLNS) at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) is taking proactive steps to promote physical and mental health while imparting vital knowledge about the benefits of a smoke-free future to young minds. On September 14, 2023, from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM, students from BLNS organized a series of engaging activities for students at Klong Kaja School, fostering holistic development and a tobacco-free future.

In an effort led by nursing freshmen as part of their NUR 1103 Psychology and Mental Health course, these compassionate students designed a range of interactive activities to engage fifth-grade students. The activities included exciting games such as ball throwing, card matching, shooting games, and balloon cup challenges. The primary objectives were to promote mental health awareness and equip school-age children with essential knowledge about tobacco control.

Complementing this initiative, third-year nursing students embarked on an equally impactful mission as part of their NS 3427 Family-Centered Care for Infant, Child, and Adolescent Nursing Practicum I. Targeting preschool children, their activities were designed to enhance fine and gross motor skills. These exercises included counting bears with chopsticks, ball matching, number throwing, picture matching games, and a stimulating shopping web game.

The Assumption University community applauds these young nursing students for their dedication to the holistic well-being of local schoolchildren. Their commitment to promoting mental health and tobacco control education is a testament to the values and principles that AU instills in its students.

The university remains committed to fostering a culture of social responsibility and community engagement among its student body. Initiatives like these not only benefit local communities but also empower students to become compassionate and informed healthcare professionals, ready to make a positive impact on society.
