Dr. Sumet Helps AU Students Navigate the Strait of Hormuz Crisis

HMM Thailand General Manager Dr. Sumet Kheawngamdee brought the realities of global shipping into the AU classroom during a compelling guest lecture on the Strait of Hormuz and its far-reaching implications for logistics, supply chains and maritime trade.

The Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics welcomed Dr. Sumet on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Assumption University’s Suvarnabhumi Campus, giving students rare access to the perspective of a senior executive working at the heart of the international maritime industry.

Held from 10:30 to 11:45 hrs., the lecture, titled “The Strait of Hormuz Crisis: Implications for Global Logistics, Supply Chains, and the Maritime Outlook for 2026,” brought a pressing international issue into the classroom.

Drawing on his extensive industry experience and leadership at HMM Thailand Co., Ltd., Dr. Sumet translated a complex geopolitical issue into clear business realities. He explained how developments surrounding one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes could affect maritime operations, supply chain planning and global trade.

His ability to connect international developments with the practical decisions facing logistics professionals and business leaders gave students a deeper understanding of how the industry responds to risk, disruption and uncertainty. The lecture also offered a valuable look at the judgment and strategic thinking required to lead within an interconnected global shipping network.

The session reflected the Martin de Tours School of Management’s commitment to linking academic study with current industry realities and preparing students to assess complex challenges in a rapidly changing global marketplace.

Assumption University extended its sincere appreciation to Dr. Sumet for generously sharing his time, experience and professional insight, and to HMM Thailand Co., Ltd. for supporting an exchange that enriched student learning and professional development.
