Students, faculty members, and university leaders gathered at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) on Thursday, 16 July 2026, for the annual Wai Kru Ceremony, one of the University’s most meaningful traditions. Held at the John Paul II Sports Center on the Suvarnabhumi Campus, the ceremony gave students an opportunity to express gratitude to the educators who have guided, challenged, and inspired them.
Organized by the Assumption University Student Organization (AUSO), the ceremony began with a formal procession and homage to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua. Ms. Phusanisa Phuakbangna, Project Director, presented the event report before students offered floral arrangements and garlands to AU administrators and faculty members.
Mr. Naphat Na Lamphoon, President of the Assumption University Student Organization 2026, led the student pledge and delivered the welcoming remarks. Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., beloved President of AU, addressed the gathering, while Dr. Soonthorn Pibulcharoensit, University Registrar, presented achievement certificates to honor students.
A special highlight of this year’s ceremony was a performance by the AU Cheerleader Group, which accompanied the songs “Thian Song Fa” (เทียนส่องฟ้า) and “Sadudee Assumption” (สดุดีอัสสัมชัญ). Their participation brought energy, grace, and a strong sense of AU pride to the traditional ceremony.
Deeply rooted in Thai culture, Wai Kru is far more than a formal observance. Students present carefully prepared floral arrangements as symbols of respect, gratitude, and dedication to learning, while teachers offer blessings and encouragement for success in their studies and future careers.
At AU, where students and faculty members represent many nationalities and cultures, the ceremony showed how Thai traditions can unite an international academic community. It also reflected values that have guided the University since its founding by the Brothers of St. Gabriel: respect, integrity, compassion, and the pursuit of knowledge.
As students knelt before their teachers with flowers in hand, the ceremony offered a powerful reminder that education is built not only through lectures and examinations, but also through trust, mentorship, and mutual respect. The 2026 Wai Kru Ceremony celebrated those who teach, those who learn, and the enduring relationships that allow knowledge and character to flourish.
