On 28 June 2023, Louis Nobiron School of Music hosted the performance “Mozart, Piazzolla, and More” orchestrally performed by Italian Thai Youth Orchestra (ITYO) under the baton of Asst. Prof. Alberto Firrincieli, the school’s full-time instructor. This performance had something unique, as two students from the School of Music joined the orchestra in the role of soloists and it was worth mentioning, this was their very first experience ever with the orchestra.

In the first half of the performance, Siya Wang (Chloe, 18 yo.), a Chinese pianist from Shanghai, second year, piano major student, performed the renowned piano concerto by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart K. 414 in A major.

In the second half of the performance, the school’s newly grad student, Xie Linhan (Alex, 22 yo.), a Chinese accordion player from Kunming, composition major student, performed Czardas by Vittorio Monti, Hungarian Dance no. 5 by Johannes Brahms, and her own arrangement of two famous works by Astro Piazzolla - Libertango and Oblivion.

The concert was honorably attended by Dr. Francesca Blasone, Deputy Head of Mission from Italian Embassy, with the Dean, Asst. Prof. Dr. Pannawit Sanitnarathorn, the Chairperson, Asst. Prof. Kittisak Poolsawat, faculties, and hundreds of students.

The tour will be continued in Hua Hin, where the programme will replicate the performance on June 30, 2023, in the fabulous Colonial Hall at Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin. These two performances have been run under the patronage of the Embassy of Italy in Thailand.

ITYO - Italian Thai Youth Orchestra has been founded 5 years ago by Asst. Prof. Alberto Firrincieli, in the occasion of the 150° Anniversary of the very first treaty between the Reigns of Italy and Siam in 1868. In these 5 years, this orchestra have had several performances, thanks to the contribution of the Italian Embassy in Thailand and private sponsors. Several musicians in these years have contributed to the recruitment of qualified members as well as to the growth of the orchestra, and among them I must mention the support of A. Jacopo Gianninoto, professor of lute and guitar at Assumption University as well. For this performance, young talented musicians from Chulalongkorn University, Silpakorn University and Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of Music have joined the project.
