Thomas Aquinas School of Law at Assumption University Embarks on Insightful Logistics and Law Field Trip, Unveiling Industry Realities

In a bid to delve deep into the intricate tapestry of logistics and law, Assumption University's School of Law orchestrated an enlightening field trip on December 15-16, 2023. This immersive venture led 6 esteemed lecturers and a cohort of 25 enthusiastic students through key industry hubs in Thailand.

Commencing at the Inland Container Depot nestled in Ladkrabang District, Bangkok, the cohort obtained active and direct experiential learning by Mr. Siwadol Pholwatchana, Marketing and Property Officer 6, State Railway of Thailand, and were intimated to the foundational workings of inland logistics. Experiencing firsthand the dynamic operations, the participants gained invaluable insights into the complexities of container handling, overall operating processes, and transport logistics.

Transitioning to the Laemchabang Port, the largest port and epicenter of maritime trade in Thailand, the group explored the authorities and responsibilities, the capacity, and the intricate facets of international trade law in action. Observing cargo handling processes and engaging with industry experts, the students and lecturers witnessed the convergence of law and logistics in the realm of global trade. The invaluable sharing was given by Mrs. Wannapa Thongbangprong, Head of the Public Relations Division, and Mr. Pakin Aunchurit, Public Relations Officer 6, Leamchabang Port, Port Authority of Thailand.

The field trip reached its crescendo at the premises of SCGJWD Logistics Public Company Limited, where interactive sessions led by Mr. Udomsak Lawanna, Warehouse Manager (Laemchabang Complex Site), SCGJWD Logistics Public Company Limited, and Ms. Weena Prachumdaeng, Business Development Division Manager, Autologic Company Limited, underscored the interplay between legal frameworks and corporate logistics strategies, especially in the warehouse management. This segment provided a panoramic view of how legal nuances intertwine with corporate logistics planning and execution.

Culminating the enriching journey at Bali Hai Pier in Pattaya, Chonburi Province, participants grasped the nuances of port operations and kinds of vessels, elucidating the critical role of legal compliance in maritime logistics, laws regarding navigation in Thai waters, Thai ship law, laws on ship collision prevention, laws on the strengthening of maritime commerce, laws on multimodal transport, and other related laws, etc. The special lecture and practice demonstration was illustrated by Mr. Ekkarat Kantharo, Director of the Pattaya Marine Department Region 6 and his professional officials’ team.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Nachatchaya Thongjan, Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs and Head of Responsible Lecturers for Logistics and Law Discipline, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, "This field trip was an extraordinary opportunity for our students to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical industry landscapes. Witnessing the real-world application of legal principles in logistics was invaluable."

The trip not only fortified the participants' understanding of the symbiotic relationship between law and logistics but also underscored the pivotal role of experiential learning in shaping adept legal professionals in the ever-evolving global landscape.

With profound experiences and a comprehensive understanding garnered from this expedition, the participants now stand poised to apply their enriched perspectives in the legal and logistical domains, bringing forth a new wave of adept professionals in these intersecting fields.
