WRITER : THE AU LIBRARY

Assumption University of Thailand (AU) celebrated Loy Krathong 2025 under the theme “The Glory of Ayutthaya” on November 5, 2025, at the Hua Mak Campus, in a graceful evening that blended beauty, tradition, and heartfelt remembrance expertly organized by the Student Council for Thomas Aquinas School of Law.

Before the festivities began, participants observed a moment of silence to honor the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, The Queen Mother, who passed away on October 24, 2025. The host led the audience in reflection, noting that “Her lifelong dedication to the Thai people, her grace and compassion, and her tireless work for the nation leave behind a powerful legacy of love and service.”

The event began with creative Kratong-making workshops at Salle d’Expo, followed by the evening’s Opening Ceremony at King’s Lawn and Sala Pratipalay, featuring a lively performance by the AU Muay Thai Club.

In his address, Rev. Bro. Bancha Saenghiran, f.s.g., Ph.D., Rector Magnificus of AU, reflected on the deeper significance of this year’s celebration:

“Tonight, we gather with light in our hearts and reverence in our souls. We celebrate Loy Krathong, a gentle reminder to let go of our troubles and embrace new beginnings.”

He also emphasized unity and national devotion, echoing this year’s theme:

“Under the national theme, ‘The Power of Loyalty’ we are reminded that love, gratitude, and unity are the greatest offerings we can make.”

As the evening continued, the campus was illuminated by candlelight and music as students, faculty, and guests released their krathongs, symbolic of peace, forgiveness, and renewal, into the waters surrounding the university.

Rev. Bro. Bancha concluded his remarks by encouraging the community to continue building harmony and hope:

“May the light of each candle tonight reflect the values we hold dear: faith, integrity, and service to others.”

The Loy Krathong Festival 2025 at AU not only celebrated Thai heritage but also offered a moment of heartfelt unity during the nation’s period of mourning, honoring tradition with grace, reverence, and love.
