Nursing Student Club Creating a Smoke Free Society, Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science has initiated projects on tobacco control since 2010 to present. The members of the Nursing Student Club Creating a Smoke Free Society are nursing students, alumni, and instructors who contribute themselves to give knowledge and cigarette smoking cessation intervention to smokers for their successfully quit.



Throughout the long journey of our work, four mains activities have been implemented to serve sustainable smoke free society including

1) training students to have smoking cessation competency under the brand “AU Ambassadors for smoking cessation”,

2) training the primary and secondary school students for having the knowledge to assess new smokers and coordinate with AU Ambassadors to stop smoking for helping them to quit,

3) create innovation and research related to smoking cessation, and

4) provide social service for making free smoking house, community, school, and mosque.

For almost 18 years of our contribution, Nursing Student Club Creating a Smoke Free Society, Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science has been selected by the Nurse Network on Tobacco Control of Thailand, the Nurses’ Association of Thailand and Thai Health Promotion Foundation to receive the first prize of the national award on the category of “The Sustainable Nursing Student Club Creating a Smoke Free Society” in 2022. On this occasion, Assistant Professor Dr. Siriporn Poonruksa, as a club consultant was a representative of the Dean, Dr. Pimsiri Bhusiri, award from Associate Professor Supanee Sanadisai, the President of Nurse Network on Tobacco Control of Thailand on May 27, 2022, at Nurses’ Association of Thailand. Moreover, Assistant Professor Dr. Siriporn Poonruksa was invited to share knowledge and her experience on the topic of “Nursing Education Institution and The Development of Free Smoking Society” to 1,000 nursing instructors, professional nurses, and nursing students on May 30, 2022 via Zoom application. Dr. Supa Pudkasam also participated in these sessions.

Furthermore, Dr. Pimsiri Bhusiri, Dean of Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, participated in the signing ceremony among Deans of Healthcare Educational Institutes in order to integrate smoking into the curricula, apply smoking to research, and reinforce the smoking cessation policy in the institutes on May 10, 2022, at The Athenee Hotel, Bangkok.
