Assumption University’s Confucius Institute Hosts Chinese Singing Contest to Celebrate 50 Years of Sino-Thai Friendship

In a harmonious celebration of cultural exchange and diplomatic camaraderie, the Confucius Institute at Assumption University (CIAU) successfully staged the 2025 Chinese Singing Contest, marking the 50th anniversary of Sino-Thai diplomatic relations. The event, held on December 26, 2025, at Assumption University of Thailand (AU), Suvarnabhumi Campus brought together students, faculty, and distinguished guests for a day of musical brilliance that transcended language barriers and reinforced the enduring bond between Thailand and China.

The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of AU leaders, including Assoc. Also in attendance as honored guests were Dr. Chayada Thanavisuth, Dean of the Theodore Maria School of Arts, and Asst. Under the theme “Singing for Sino-Thai Friendship, A 50-Year Melody,” contestants from primary, secondary, and university levels delivered heartfelt performances of Chinese songs, showcasing exceptional technical skill and deep emotional resonance. Each rendition served as a tribute to the five decades of friendship between Thailand and China, turning the competition into a vibrant cultural dialogue.

The contest followed a rigorous yet inclusive format, starting with an open submission period, progressing through a finalist selection round, and culminating in a live final performance. This structure ensured wide student participation while upholding artistic excellence, providing emerging talents with a supportive platform to shine.

In the Primary School Category, Mr. Kantanat Suphasanrangsan from The Essence School claimed the First Prize, with Ms. Juthamas Assawachaiwasin from Bangkok Bilingual School winning the Second Prize and Ms. Thanyarat Kewcharoen from The Demonstration School of Silpakorn University taking home the Third Prize.

In the University Category, AU’s own Ms. Araya See Jo-Ee claimed the First Prize, with Ms. Pantharee Paladma from Silpakorn University winning the Second Prize and Ms. Ananta Khamrot from Burapha University earning the Third Prize.

Beyond the competition itself, the event aligned with the Confucius Institute’s core mission to promote Chinese language learning, cultural appreciation, and people-to-people connections within the AU community. By engaging with Chinese culture through music, students gained a creative and memorable understanding of the richness of cross-cultural exchange.

As the final notes echoed through the venue, the 2025 Chinese Singing Contest stood as a powerful testament to the role of art in cultural diplomacy. It not only honored the 50-year legacy of Sino-Thai friendship but also inspired a new generation to carry this spirit of collaboration forward, one melody at a time.
