The Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) hosted an engaging and knowledge-packed lecture on “Active and Intelligent Packaging”, a pivotal topic within the fields of FT4126 Food Packaging and FT4145 Packaging Design Innovation.


Prof. Dr. Pornchai Rachtanapun, a distinguished academic and senior researcher in the field of active and intelligent packaging technology, captivated students and faculty with his in-depth exploration of packaging innovations that extend shelf life, enhance food safety, and deliver real-time information to consumers. His presentation bridged theoretical knowledge with practical applications, illustrating how active and intelligent packaging is transforming the global food industry.


Throughout the morning session at Hua Mak Campus, Prof. Dr. Rachtanapun shared case studies highlighting advancements such as antimicrobial packaging materials, freshness indicators, and smart labeling systems. Attendees gained valuable insights into the integration of science, design, and sustainability in packaging, fostering ideas for future research and product development.
About Dr. Pornchai Rachtanapun
Prof. Pornchai is a professor at the Department of Packaging Technology, Faculty of Agro-Industry, Chiang Mai University. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Kasetsart University, Thailand (1993), his Master of Science in Chemistry from Michigan Technological University (1999), and his Ph.D. from the School of Packaging, Michigan State University (2003). His research focuses on biopolymer-based films (e.g., carboxymethyl cellulose, carboxymethyl chitosan, nanocellulose), nanotechnology in packaging, and packaging solutions derived from agro-industry and agricultural wastes.
The event reinforced the Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology’s commitment to equipping students with cutting-edge knowledge and industry-relevant skills, preparing graduates to lead innovation in food technology and design.
