A Cap, a Lamp, a Calling: AU Nursing Honors the Class of 2027

On Monday, March 30, 2026, the Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) was set to hold its Capping Ceremony for the Class of 2027, a deeply symbolic occasion that marked the moment when sophomore nursing students moved from the study of theory toward the lived responsibility of clinical practice.

Held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Hall of Fame in Coronation Hall  on the Hua Mak Campus, the ceremony stood as one of the school’s most meaningful traditions, rich with history and quiet gravity. In nursing, the cap has long represented dignity, discipline, and service. The lamp, inspired by Florence Nightingale, the “Lady with the Lamp,” has endured as a symbol of care, compassion, and the guiding light nurses bring to the lives of others.

For the students of the Class of 2027, the ceremony was more than a formal rite. It marked the official beginning of their professional journey, a public and heartfelt commitment to the ethics, standards, and values of the nursing profession. It was the kind of milestone that carried both pride and weight: a reminder that nursing is not only a field of study, but also a calling.

Families were warmly invited to attend and witness the occasion, a gesture that recognized the powerful role parents and loved ones play in every student’s journey. Their support, encouragement, and sacrifices helped bring these future nurses to this important threshold, and the ceremony offered a chance to celebrate that shared achievement together.

The event also reflected the strong sense of unity within the nursing school community. To preserve faculty tradition and affirm solidarity across all year levels, attendance was required for freshman, junior, and senior students. Their presence was meant to honor the sophomore class and to reaffirm a shared commitment to the profession they are preparing to enter.

In a world that continues to ask much of its healthcare workers, ceremonies such as this still matter. They slow the moment down. They remind students, families, and faculty alike that nursing is built not only on knowledge and skill, but also on compassion, duty, and the courage to care for others in moments of uncertainty. At AU, the Capping Ceremony for the Class of 2027 was poised to do exactly that: celebrate a passage, honor a promise, and shine a light on the next generation of nurses.
