Falling Walls Lab Thailand 2025: Young Innovators Breaking Walls

WRITER : OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

Assumption University of Thailand (AU)’s  Office of International Affairs was pleased to attend Falling Walls Lab Thailand 2025, held on 13 September 2025 at the Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok. The competition gathered talented students and early-career professionals who pitched their ideas in just three minutes, showing how creativity and determination can break walls that hold back progress.

The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bangkok, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL).

A Platform for Changemakers

Falling Walls Lab is an international stage that gives young innovators the chance to share their ideas with real potential for impact. The Thailand edition featured participants from many fields, each presenting solutions that could break down walls in science, technology, health, and sustainability.

Highlights from the Stage

The Lab featured a wide range of projects across science, technology, environment, and healthcare.

Ideas presented included:

Sustainable solutions: recycled rubber insulation for energy-saving buildings, biodegradable packaging from corn husks, functional food ingredients from sugarcane waste, turning cacao waste into livestock feed to reduce methane emissions, and alternative protein production from food and agricultural waste.

Healthcare innovations: light-sensitive cancer therapies, early microbial detection for colorectal cancer, resorbable 3D-printed magnesium implants to reduce surgery, and rice-based nanoemulsion for skincare.

Environmental technologies: AI-powered wastewater treatment, wildfire smoke evacuation systems, and air-quality alert platforms designed especially for children.

Future-focused concepts: holographic AI agents, adaptive smart clothing, and elderly-friendly payment solutions to prevent scams.

These projects captured the spirit of the Falling Walls Lab: breaking walls and turning fresh ideas into opportunities for change.

Pathway to Berlin

The winners from Thailand will represent the country at the Falling Walls Global Finale in Berlin this November, where they will meet innovators from around the world at the Falling Walls Science Summit.

The Office of International Affairs was glad to attend the creativity and dedication of the participants. The event highlighted how fresh ideas can break walls and open new possibilities. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the organizers for making this platform possible and for supporting young innovators in Thailand. We look forward to seeing Thailand’s representatives share their work in Berlin later this year.
