Welcoming the University of Fukui : Two Weeks of Friendship, Culture, and Shared Memories at AU

From August 16 to 29, 2025, the Theodore Maria School of Arts warmly welcomed Professor Koji Kobata and students from the University of Fukui, Japan, for a cultural immersion exchange program. The two-week journey was filled with learning, sharing, and heartfelt moments that brought our universities closer together.

Experiencing Thai Culture

Fukui students explored Thailand’s traditions through activities hosted by AU buddies. They joined lectures on Thai culture, learned traditional dance, and even cooked Thai dishes together. Each activity was hands-on and fun, creating natural opportunities to connect and build friendships.

Learning by Giving

The program was also about giving back. At Bankao School and Bangbowitthayakhom School, Fukui students taught Japanese to local students, sharing not only their language but also their culture. It became a meaningful exchange, where both sides learned and grew together.

Exploring Thailand

Beyond the classroom, the group discovered Thailand’s rich history and landscapes. Field trips to Bangkok, Kanchanaburi, and Ayutthaya offered chances to explore temples, historical sites, and local communities, deepening their understanding of Thai life while strengthening bonds with AU students.

Living with AU Families

One of the most memorable experiences was the homestay program. AU families opened their homes to Fukui students, offering hospitality and everyday experiences that made them feel at home. This warm welcome created close connections and friendships that will last far beyond the program.

Cherished Memories

AU extends heartfelt thanks to the University of Fukui for joining this exchange. The friendships built over these two weeks will be cherished, and with joy we say — また今度会いましょう (see you again).
