Words, Welcome, and a World of Culture at the IELE Language Café

IELE Café 3-2024 Kicks Off a New Tradition of Connection, Conversation and Community

WRITER: THE AU LIBRARY

The IELE Language Café 3-2024, held on April 28–29 at CL Plaza,The Cathedral of Learning Building, brought the Assumption University of Thailand (AU), Suvarnabhumi Campus, to life with the sounds of laughter, language, and lively conversation. Hosted by the Institute for English Language Education (IELE) in partnership with AUAA, this colorful event welcomed newly admitted students to the summer semester with an experience designed to build community from day one.

For many, the transition into university life can feel daunting. The Language Café aimed to change that—offering a relaxed, supportive space where students could meet new friends, connect with faculty and staff, and feel part of the AU family from the start. With interactive games, cross-cultural activities, and a tempting spread of snacks and refreshments, the event blended learning with fun in the best way possible.

In a first for the summer semester, the IELE Language Café now marks the beginning of a new tradition: a welcoming, semesterly gathering that fosters engagement across language levels, cultures, and academic backgrounds. Students left with new vocabulary, yes—but also with new connections, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

Big thanks to the IELE team and AUAA for creating an event where every voice mattered, and every language was a bridge to something greater.
