Friday 11th March at Hua Mak Campus, Graduate School of Business and Advanced Technology Management (GSBATM) held a two-hour-talk and tour over the campus’ iconic places-the Chapel of Annunciation, Thailand’s Great Monarch Bas-relief by St. Gabriel Library, and, the Prateepalai Thai Pavilion.

Led by Dr. Kittikorn Dowpiset, Assistant Dean of GSBATM, this project gave its premier to the group of 20 international students and faculty members. The lecture and guided-tour, conducted by Dr. Apichart Intravisit, Chair of Creative Communication of MBA Program, provides a concise introduction to Thai culture viewed through Thailand’s three principal institutions, juxtaposed with modern theories of cultural perspectives, i.e. Hofstede. The introductory lecture in the classroom also includes art forms and motives commonly found in Thai architecture. Both lecturers find it necessary for international business people to learn about Thai culture before dealing their businesses with their counterpart.

The guided tour began at the Chapel of Annunciation where participants learned more about details on the stain-glass on the right and left sides of the Chapel. Brief history of Catholicism in modern Siam is found on the left side of the Chapel, while the right one provides details of the twelve apostles and the university’s code of arms. Most participants were impressed by the description on the bas-relief depicting Thailand’s Great Monarchs from 13th century to the present days. The tour ended at Thai Pavilion-Prateepalai, which represents not only an authentic Thai art form of Ratanakosin Era, but also a monument of wisdom and guiding light created by the founder of the university.

This cultural lecture and tour will be arranged again for MBA exchange students from European countries and other international students of MBA in September this year. “Similar activities for cultural appreciation should be established, because through learning about art forms and how they have evolved would make our international friends appreciate our ways and handle business relationship carefully and sensitively,” said Dr. Kittikorn Dowpiset.
