Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President of Assumption University of Thailand (AU) as the Advisory Committee participated in the online Catholic Social Communication of Thailand (CSCT) Board Committee Meeting 1/2022 on February 17, 2022.
Mr. Vrong Chinvanthananond, AU Library staff, also attended this meeting and delivered the operational report of Assumption University of Thailand on July - December 2021 as follows:

1. AU Teaching and Learning

  • Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand since 2019, AU have been conducting all courses online until the end of the academic year 2021 in May 2022 with an exception to those whose study needs lab operation on campus.
  • AU officially announced the project “Transformation of Assumption University” on June 1st 2021. In the event, the AU President introduced new strategies and operational directions to all AU faculties and supporting units to enhance and sustain the AU operational systems.
  • AU organized the workshop “Make AU our second Home” on November and December 2021 for all AU workforce. The workshop focused on Catholic-based practices that cover team working, team sharing, team responsibility, team sympathy and dedication. The workshop aimed to make all workforce to be ready for the smart office and smart university.

2. Information on AU Website

  • The AU official website contained all AU-related news such as workshop participation, seminar, new programs and courses, Thailand’s important events and research publications.
  • So far, there were 223 news published on the AU website with an average of 37 pieces of news per month.
  • There were 27 Catholic news published on the AU website with an average of 4.5 pieces of news per month.
  • There were 29 environmental news published on the AU website with an average of 5 pieces of news per month.
  • The number of website visitors counted by Google was 118,825 with an average of 19,804 per month.
  • The average website access time was 1.86 minute.

3. AU – SDGs

  • Participants: AU management committee, AU lecturers and students, and surrounding communities
  • AU set 5 goals which are:
    • Goal 6: Water management- 1) Planting management 2) Flood prevention 3) Water recycling 4) Water protection
    • Goal 12: Supply management- 1) Junk management 2) Supply selections with an emphasis on environmental protection 3) Environmental-friendly cleaning 4) Reducing insecticide in planting
    • Goal 13: Climate change adaptation: 1) Increase green areas 2) Reduce paper consumption 3) Reduce plastic consumption 4) Energy saving 5) Using sustainable energy 6) Space management 7) Environmental conservation
    • Goal 14: Sea conservation- 1) Reduce plastic consumption
    • Goal 15: Land conservation- 1) Increase green space and 2) Reduce the use of insecticide in planting
  • How to operate:
  1. Determine the operational directions and processes
  2. Submit the plans for approval by related committee
  3. Proceed the approved plans
  4. Collect data for evaluation
  5. Evaluate the operational processes and outcomes
  6. Improve and develop new strategies for future sustainability
  • Examples of operation:
  1. Reduce the use of energy: electricity, water and telephone costs
  2. Encourage shared spaces
  3. Implement more sustainable systems of air-conditioning, lights, water and recycling

The results of the operation (in comparison between November 2020 and June-November 2021):

The expenses of electricity, water and telephone

- Hua Mak Campus decreasing by 14.31%

- Suvarnabhumi Campus decreasing by 21.27%

- Total: decreasing by 19.85% (4,989,092 Baht)

AU always puts a particular emphasis on an environmental-friendly management as a Catholic university, corresponding to the strong wills of Pope Francis that were announced on June 14th, 2015.
