The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science (BLNS) hosted the first two days of the Preceptorship Training for Clinical Nursing Practicum on January 6–7, 2025, with an engaging agenda designed to prepare clinical preceptors for their critical roles in nursing education. The program will continue January 13–14, 2025, completing its mission of equipping participants with advanced teaching and mentoring techniques.

January 6–7, 2025, the first session, held from 08:45 to 16:00 hrs, brought together participants from various healthcare settings for an engaging day of learning and skill-building aimed at becoming a qualify preceptor for supervision nursing students in clinical practicum. The program began with a welcoming address to all participants by Asst. Prof. Dr. Wanida Ngienthi, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs.

 
 
 
 
 

The first two days of training included modules on health systems, core competencies of professional nursing and midwifery, and the alignment of the nursing curriculum with the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework. Esteemed speakers included:

  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Pregamol Rutchanagul, Vice Rector for Quality Development and University Transformation, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Thammasat University, provided valuable insights into the healthcare system and the nursing curriculum, focusing on how both are integrated within the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework. She highlighted how the nursing curriculum, structured around OBE, ensures that students are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare system, fostering critical thinking, clinical decision-making, and the ability to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Prof. Dr. Pinthusorn Pattayakorn, Interim Department Chair, Department of Nursing, College of Natural Science, California State University San Bernardino, California, U.S.A and Asst. Prof. Dr. Onouma Thummapol, Associate Dean, Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, shared valuable insights on preceptorship in nursing education. The speakers highlighted its importance in bridging theory and practice, fostering student confidence and skill development. They also outlined the qualifications of preceptors—experienced, skilled nurses with strong communication and teaching abilities—and emphasized their roles and responsibilities in providing feedback, assessing competencies, and offering guidance.
  • Asst. Prof. Dr. Siriporn Poonruksa, Senior lecturer, Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, shared valuable insights on the teaching and learning management during the seminar. She also focused on integrating innovative teaching strategies that foster engagement and promote active learning
  • Dr. Phat Prapawichar, Dean, Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, emphasized that following the nursing process is essential for ensuring optimal care and enhancing clinical effectiveness. She also highlighted the critical role of accurate nursing documentation in promoting patient safety, ensuring legal protection, and facilitating effective communication within the healthcare team.

The upcoming sessions will delve deeper into the nursing process, clinical teaching methods, and performance evaluation. Dr. Phat Prapawichar, Dean of BLNS, highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating:

“Preceptors are not just teachers; they are role models who inspire and influence the professional development of our nursing students.
