Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) is the law created to grant the rights to the owner of personal data, establish the standards of personal data preservation and protection, and allow the use of data according to the consent received from the owner of personal data, regulated by the law of PDPA Thailand (Personal Data Protection Act) publicized and announced in the Government Gazette on May 27, 2019, but postponed to come into effect on June 1, 2022.

Assumption University of Thailand (AU) has recognized and attached great importance to personal data of faculty, students, and staff. The University, therefore, has developed Assumption University Announcement Subject: Personal Data Protection Policy B.E. 2565 (2022), to increase efficiency in data management under the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019). The collection, use, processing, or disclosure of personal data are basic activities the University needs to undertake. Such activities include student recruitment, teaching and learning, employment of personnel, research, academic service, and other activities related to students, alumni, and participants of those activities. To assure that the personal data collected, used, processed, or disclosed by the University is effectively protected, the University is obliged to take responsibility in the protection of all data collected and processed in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019).

Assumption University of Thailand, then, issued Assumption University Order entitled “Appointment of Personal Data Protection Committee of Assumption University”. In accordance with Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019), the committee held a workshop to provide knowledge of personal data protection on the topic “PDPA: RoPA and Privacy Notice.” The workshop was aimed at enhancing the AU personnel’s knowledge of personal data protection law. The speakers were the faculties knowledgeable about the Act. The speakers were Dr. Kitikorn Dowpiset, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Graduate School of Business and Advanced Technology Management, and A. Aek Wonganant, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and Quality Assurance, Thomas Aquinas School of Law, as well as Khun Thida Jiaranai, staff of Office of Human Resources Management, as the speaker assistant. 


 

 

 

There were five units attending the workshop: Vincent Mary School of Science and Technology, Student Affairs, Office of The University Registrar, Office of Graduate Studies, and Office of Information Technology Services. The workshop was held on August 19, 2022, at A61 room, Assumption Hall, Hua Mak Campus.
