Assumption University of Thailand's Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science (BLNS) celebrated the Capping Ceremony for the Class of 2025 on February 16, 2024, at Auditorium Hall, the Hua Mak Campus. This event honored the academic achievements of the nursing students and their commitment to the healthcare profession.

This Capping Ceremony aimed to adorn nursing caps to qualified nursing students, to inspire nursing students to continue their studies successfully, and to promote student’s good attitude toward nursing profession. The activities in this ceremony were Ritual ceremony, Professional tradition, and capping ceremony. Thirty-seven students are eligible to attend this ceremony. They are Thai, Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, and British.

The event featured the time-honored recitation of the Florence Nightingale Pledge, an oath that underscores the ethical and moral obligations of the nursing profession. This solemn vow, reminiscent of the Hippocratic Oath, was recited by the nursing students, signifying their dedication to upholding the integrity and compassion of nursing. The full text of the Pledge is as follows:

“I solemnly pledge myself before God and in the presence of this assembly, to pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous, and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession, and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and all family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in their work, and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care.”

Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, AU President – Rector Magnificus, reflected on the significance of the Pledge: “As our nursing students recited the Florence Nightingale Pledge, they committed themselves to a legacy of care that transcends time. Their voices carried the promise of a future brightened by their dedication and ethical conviction.”

One part of this ceremony was opening and closing prayers delivered by Rev. Bro. Dr. Amnuay Yoonprayong, Vice President for Moral Development Education & University Campus Minister. To make this ceremony lively, Asst. Prof. Dott. Alberto Firrincieli, a lecturer of Louis Nobiron School of Music, played the piano in this event.

Dr. Pimsiri Bhusiri, the Dean of the School of Nursing Science, remarked, “The Pledge is a powerful affirmation of our students' readiness to enter the nursing field with honor and readiness to advocate for the health and well-being of their patients.”

The Class of 2025 will soon step beyond the halls of Assumption University, carrying the legacy of a revered institution and the timeless virtues of the Florence Nightingale Pledge. We wish them every success as they embark on this noble journey, confident that they will exceed the bounds of what we have envisioned today. May their careers be as fulfilling as their care is compassionate, and may their paths be lit with the wisdom, courage, and empathy they have cultivated here. Assumption University stands in unwavering support of these future healthcare leaders, today and always.

On this occasion, Dr. Vindhai Cocracul, Academic Advisor, A. Sompol Na- Songkhla, Vice President for Legal and Privilege Affairs, Director of Library, Director of Office of Vice President for Academic Affairs, Administrators from North University, and Administrator from Klong Kaja school as well as parents of the sophomore students also congratulated these students.
