AU Community Mobilizes to Support Northern Thailand Flood Recovery

In response to the devastating floods that have struck northern Thailand, Assumption University of Thailand (AU) has launched a comprehensive relief initiative in partnership with The Mirror Foundation. This initiative aims to support those affected by the disaster through the collection and distribution of essential supplies.

From August 27-30, 2024, Assumption University’s Suvarnabhumi and Hua Mak Campuses served as collection points for donations, gathering a wide range of necessities including cleaning supplies, bedding, kitchen appliances, and pet food. These items will aid in the immediate recovery efforts in the flood-affected regions.

On August 31, a dedicated delegation from Assumption University, including representatives from the Office of Graduate Studies, the AU Student Organization (AUSO), and the AU Alumni Association (AUAA), personally delivered the collected donations to The Mirror Foundation’s Bangkok center. This delivery marks a significant step in ensuring that the aid reaches those who need it most, demonstrating the university’s commitment to community service and solidarity.

“This initiative reflects the heart of Assumption University’s mission—serving those in need with compassion and dedication,” said Mr. Saharath Dowpiset, Director, Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and Center for Student Leadership and Experiential Learning. “We are incredibly proud of our community’s swift and generous response to this crisis.”

The Mirror Foundation, known for its longstanding work with ethnic minorities and marginalized communities in northern Thailand, will handle the distribution of the donated goods, ensuring they reach the most vulnerable populations.
