The Partnership Agreement Signing Ceremony between Assumption University of Thailand (AU) by Rev. Bro. Dr. Bancha Saenghiran, President of AU and British Council Thailand by Ms. Helga Stellmacher, Country Director, British Council Thailand was held at the Grand Salon room, St. Raphael's Hall, Assumption University of Thailand on July 11, 2022, with the aim to establish the IELTS Public Testing Centre at Assumption University of Thailand.

British Council Thailand has expressed the confidence in the readiness of AU facilities as the testing centre for AU students and residents in the area. IELTS is an English proficiency test which is recognised internationally. This collaboration will therefore be very beneficial as the establishment of the testing centre will align with AU’s strategy on English language excellence which focuses on enhancing English skills for both its students and the public for their international program study, abroad study, daily use or professional use. After the ceremony, British Council Thailand visited the SCIT Building where the Testing Centre is located.

Welcome Address by Rev. Bro. Bancha Saenghiran, f.s.g, Ph.D.

As President-Rector Magnificus of Assumption University of Thailand and on behalf of my colleagues and the Academic Community of the University, I am indeed pleased and honored to welcome high office bearers from the British Council from Thailand and from the regional affiliated offices. Thank you all for being here with us at our Suvaranabhumi campus where we have offered classes mostly at the Undergraduate level degree programs, since 1999.

Assumption University of Thailand is the First International Catholic University of its type in the Kingdom of Thailand, drawing on its institutional inspiration from the early Montfortian Gabrielite missionaries who began their mission with Assumption College, Bangrak and with the present operations, we sustain 17 institutions, including Assumption University as the first Gabreilite University in Thailand and worldwide. The Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel as we are known, serve in 33 countries currently.

We at Assumption University of Thailand are entrusted by the Thai and International communities of learners to enshrine Ethics, the English Language and Entrepreneurial spirit in our education. Here, let me highlight my deepest personal appreciation to the British Council for entering into an agreement with our University to expand the IELTS testing services to the general public, beyond our current clientele among the present enrolled students. I believe that in this way, we can expand our influence in the service of the public whom we place at the focus on our Institutional service responsibility.

I am confident that not only the ambience of our services, but also the capability of our staff and service leaders can satisfy the overall common visions that the British Council and we espouse. To that end, let me offer my congratulations and blessings at the same time, to mark this significant event of our collaboration.

Let me end my remarks reiterating my sincere thanks to the British Council, Thailand for standing with us in the common cause of improving the English language services in a more comprehensive and sustainable way.
