The Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, commonly known as East Timor, is a sovereign state located in Southeast Asia on the southernmost edge of the Indonesian archipelago, northwest of Australia. The country includes the eastern half of Timor Island, as well as the Oecussi enclave in the northwest portion of Indonesian West Timor, and the islands of Atauro and Jaco.
The territory comprises an area of 15,007 sq. km. Timor-Leste gained international recognition of its independence on 20 May 2002, and became one of the newest countries in the 21st century and the 191 st member of the United Nations on 27 September 2002. The population of the country is highly concentrated in the area around the capital city of Dili.

Assumption University of Thailand comprises faculty members from countries around the globe and more than 2000 foreign students of diverse cultures and backgrounds from more than 80 counties including Timorese students.

14th anniversary of restoration of Timorese independence
The Director of Assumption University Office of International Affairs and staff from the Student Affairs joined the international student representatives in congratulating Mr. Paulino Henrique Ribeiro, Attache of Education, Embassy of Timor-Leste and the Tomorese student community in Thailand on the occasion the 14th anniversary of restoration of Timorese independence at a commemorative cultural evening and dinner on May 6, 2016 at the Albert Hall, the AU Mall, Suvarnabhumi Campus.
Assumption University’s Timorese students act out the birth of their nation through participating in a Hollywood movie production
Ten Assumption University students were selected by a Movie production house to participate in the making of a Hollywood Bio- film movie about Sergio Viera Garcia Demello the Special UN Representative to Timor Leste when the country was created in 2002. In the movie shooting at Chanataburi province during 10 days, September 15-26, 2018 the ten Assumption University students (alongside 31 other Timorese nationals) learnt from their experiences and gained knowledge from the Director of the movie and Hollywood actors themselves.
