South Korea has been described as a 'self-made' miracle (Woronoff, 1983) in terms of its economic recovery over the last decade. The 'miracle' has significance far beyond the changes wrought in the lives of its own population and the example and challenge to other developing countries, extended in the area of high technology to Western countries.
Its geographical situation in the Far East gives it a key position in a struggle for ideological supremacy between the United States backed by its allies, and its communist neighbours. Its relationships with the latter, including
North Korea, and other Pacific region states, including Japan, are highly relevant to world peace and global defensive strategies.
The National Day in South Korea, also known as the National Liberation Day of Korea, is celebrated annually on the 15th of August.

Relationship between Assumption University of Thailand and South Korea
Assumption University of Thailand’s President-Rector Magnificus and the Academic Community greets and felicitates the President, government and the people of South Korea on the occasion of the National Day of the Republic of South Korea.
Gratified with the presences of Faculty and students from South Korea, the University seeks to further engage with the Republic of South Korea through its Universities.

The Activities of South Korea Students in AU
Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology, Assumption University, has been conducting a joint class in Basic Microbial Physiology with the Department of Forest Products and Biotechnology, Kookmin University, South Korea. This year’s two-week program is being organized during February 1-15, 2020.
The Director of the Office of International Affairs, Mr. Glen Chatelier welcomed 12 International Exchange students from France, The Netherlands, Japan and South Korea and provided them an orientation on study at Assumption University and Primer on Thai Culture on January 21, 2016 at the Assumption Hall, Hua Mak campus.
