Japan is an island country in East Asia. It is situated in the northwest Pacific Ocean, and is bordered on the west by the Sea of Japan, while extending from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north toward the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south.
It marks the traditional date on which according to legend Emperor Jimmu founded Japan in 660 BC. Japan switched from the traditional Japanese calendar - a lunar calendar based on the waxing and waning of the moon - to the Gregorian calendar starting in January 1873.
It was at this time that the day of the enthronement of Emperor Jinmu, the first Japanese emperor, was made a national holiday and named Empire Day (Kigen-setsu). February 11th 660 BC was determined as the day of enthronement by calculating the date in the solar calendar corresponding to the date recorded in the Chronicles of Japan, Japan's first history compiled on imperial orders.
February 11th is National Foundation Day (Kenkokukinen-no-Hi), a national holiday for Japanese people to remind themselves of the nation's founding and foster their love for the nation.

Relationship between Assumption University of Thailand and Japan
The President-Rector Magnificus and the Academic Community of Assumption University of Thailand greets and congratulates the Government and people of Japan on the occasion of the National Day of Japan, on February 11, 2024.

The Department also offers internship opportunities as well as a semester to one-year exchange program with prestigious Japanese Universities. In addition to academic knowledge, students can also explore and enjoy a wide variety of Japanese cultural activities and classes. On July 31, 2015, A group of students and teachers from Sapporo Sacred Heart School paid a visit to Assumption University of Thailand, Suvarnabhumi Campus. After the visit, they attended mass in St. Loius Marie de Montfort Chapel celebrated by AU campus Minister, Rev. Bro. Dr. Amnuay Yoonprayong.
