Belgium, officially the Kingdom of Belgium, is a country in Western Europe. Belgium, at the end of our 20th century, is committed to a path of federalism which guarantees the respect of every person within the diversity of cultures on which the country is founded.
At the time as the difficult assimilation of Central and Eastern European countries into the orbit of the Europe of the Twelve is posed in terms of resurgent nationalism, Belgium becomes in this way a model of cooperation between communities with differing cultures.
21st July marks the National Day of Belgium. This day has a unique significance in the country’s history. The originally, National Day of Belgian was celebrated on 27 September as the commemoration of the Dutch military's final withdrawal from Brussels after several days of fighting in mid-September 1830. In 1890, the date of the National Day was changed to 21st July to commemorate the date of Belgium's first King Leopold I's accession to the throne.
