Splash into tradition at Assumption University of Thailand (AU)'s celebration of Thai Heritage Preservation Week and Songkran Festival 2024. Organized by the Office of Thai Art and Culture, Student Affairs. They've lined up two days, April 10th and 11th, filled with activities that honor our culture and festivity at the Suvarnabhumi Campus.

AU President Rev. Bro. Bancha extends a heartfelt invitation: "In this season of new beginnings, I warmly invite the AU family to embrace the joyous traditions of Songkran. Let's celebrate our rich heritage together; from the gentle sprinkling of water on Buddha statues symbolizing purification and renewal, to sharing laughter and camaraderie at our community tea party. Songkran is a time for reflection, joy, kindness and connection."

From the sacred to the social, here's what we have in store:

April 10 - 11, 2024, at AU Plaza:

9:30 AM to 4:30 PM: Begin with the ritual of sprinkling scented water onto a Buddha image, a gesture of reverence and cleansing for the New Year, followed by a vibrant Thai Art and Crafts Fair.

April 11, 2024, at AU Plaza:

7:30 AM: Food offerings to Buddhist monks, a tradition steeped in merit and mindfulness.
8:00 AM: Participate in Alms Giving, a practice of generosity and humility.
1:00 PM: Assemble at the AU Shopping Plaza for a communal gathering.
1:30 PM: Enjoy a Thai Regional Costume Fashion Show, where tradition is showcased through textile and color.
2:20 PM: Listen to the Opening Speech by Rector Magnificus, sharing insights and blessings.

At Sala Chaturamuk Paijit:

2:30 PM: Gather for a soulful assembly.
2:45 PM: Engage in the Water-Pouring Ceremony “Rod Nam Dam Hua,” honoring our elders and seeking blessings.
3:45 PM: Wrap up with a Tea Party, where we connect and celebrate our community.

Wear your traditional Thai attire and join us in keeping the spirit of Songkran alive at AU. We look forward to seeing you there, embodying the spirit of Songkran!
