WRITER: MARTIN DE TOURS SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT AND ECONOMICS

On a hot Saturday in August, students and teachers from Assumption University of Thailand (AU)’s Martin de Tours School of Management and Economics visited the Bon Kai Homemaker Community. They weren’t there just for a lesson—they were there to make a real difference as part of the Youth Volunteer Project 2024.

Bon Kai, a small community in Bangkok, faces many challenges. But with the help of AU, things are starting to look up. This project’s goal was clear: help the community sell more of their Herbane herbal shampoo by teaching them how to use social media like Instagram and Facebook.

With the guidance of AU’s teachers, students became digital experts for the day. They showed the Bon Kai community how to promote their products online, reaching new customers and boosting sales. But the day wasn’t just about marketing. The volunteers also helped clean and organize the community’s storage areas, making the work environment more pleasant and efficient.

The Youth Volunteer Project, supported by Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, is all about bringing classroom knowledge into the real world. It encourages students to get involved in community work, helping them see the impact they can have beyond the university walls.

For the people of Bon Kai, the benefits were immediate. The increased sales of their shampoo mean more income for the community, especially for housewives and elderly members who rely on this extra money. But the project did more than just boost sales—it helped build a stronger, more connected community.

As one of the AU volunteers put it, “We’re not just helping them make money; we’re helping them build a better future.”
The partnership between AU and the Bon Kai community is just getting started. There’s hope that this relationship will continue to grow, bringing more opportunities and support to those who need it most.

In a busy city like Bangkok, projects like this show that progress isn’t just about money—it’s about people working together to create a better life for everyone.
