Assumption University of Thailand (AU) welcomed Chinese language educators from across the country for the Thai Local Chinese Language Teachers Teaching Seminar, a full-day program hosted by the Confucius Institute at Assumption University (CIAU). Designed under the theme “中文新视野,教学新思路 – New Perspectives for Chinese, New Pathways for Teaching” the seminar brought together specialist lecturers and local teachers to explore evolving approaches to Chinese language education in Thailand.
A Strong Opening from AU Leadership
The day began with a warm welcome from Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of AU, who presided over the opening ceremony and group photo session. His remarks underscored AU’s commitment to supporting quality language education and fostering deeper cultural understanding between Thailand and China.
Expert Insights from Leading Scholars
Three distinguished speakers delivered keynote lectures that shaped the day’s discourse:
Professor Gao Huimin, Director of the Confucius Institute at Kasetsart University (Chinese side), presented “Clear Teaching, Effective Learning: Practical Strategies for Efficient Chinese Language Classes,” offering proven techniques for strengthening clarity, comprehension, and classroom engagement.
Professor Zhong Qiangwei, Director of the Confucius Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Huachiew Chalermprakiet University (Chinese side), introduced teachers to the foundations of traditional Chinese medicine and its cultural significance, followed by a practical demonstration of basic health assessment concepts.
Dr. Traiporn Kasempremjit, Chair of the Business Chinese Program at Assumption University of Thailand, delivered an in-depth analysis titled “Exploring the Current Situation and Challenges of Chinese Language Teaching in Thailand.” Her talk highlighted new demands on Thai educators and opportunities for curriculum innovation.
Collaboration, Reflection, and Shared Solutions
In the afternoon, participants joined small-group discussions, exchanging classroom experiences and co-creating ideas to enhance local Chinese language instruction. Each group appointed a representative to present key insights, promoting shared learning and fostering a sense of professional community.
Closing Remarks and AU’s Continued Commitment
The seminar concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Zhao Peiqin, Director of CIAU, who expressed appreciation for the active participation of educators and reaffirmed CIAU’s dedication to elevating the quality of Chinese language education nationwide.
