Assumption University of Thailand (AU) proudly celebrated the Wai Kru Ceremony 2025 on Thursday, September 11, 2025, bringing together students, faculty, and administrators in a heartfelt expression of respect and gratitude. The annual ceremony took place in the evening and reflected one of Thailand’s most meaningful traditions, honoring teachers who guide, nurture, and inspire the next generation.

The program opened with registration, followed by an inspiring performance by AU freshmen that set a celebratory tone. Ms. Wisaka Wu offered warm introductory remarks, after which Asst. Prof. Dr. Onouma Thummapol, Dean of the Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, delivered an inspiring opening speech. The highlight of the evening was the symbolic Wai Kru ritual, where student representatives expressed gratitude on behalf of their peers, followed by the ceremonial presentation of certificates by Asst. Prof. Dr. Onouma Thummapol. The event concluded with a group photo and evaluation, capturing both the joy and solemnity of the occasion.

The Meaning of Wai Kru
The Wai Kru Ceremony, literally translated as “paying respect to teachers”, is a cherished Thai cultural practice observed in schools and universities across the country. More than a ritual of gratitude, it symbolizes the enduring bond between teachers and students. Students present offerings of flowers, candles, and incense, each carrying symbolic meaning: respect, perseverance, discipline, and the pursuit of wisdom. By kneeling before their teachers, students honor the guiding hands that shape their academic journey and foster their personal growth.

A Tradition that Inspires the Future
The 2025 Wai Kru Ceremony at AU not only paid tribute to its dedicated faculty but also reminded the community of the enduring values that define education—respect, humility, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge. As the candles dimmed and the ceremony drew to a close, students left with renewed determination to carry forward these values, ensuring that the spirit of Wai Kru continues to inspire long after the flowers have faded.
At AU, the tradition of Wai Kru is more than a ceremony—it is a living reminder that true education is not only about acquiring knowledge, but also about building character, nurturing gratitude, and inspiring future generations.
