Faith, Tradition and a Crown of Glory as AU Celebrates Assumption Day

Assumption University of Thailand (AU) joyfully marked the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a day of profound faith and tradition for the AU community. Rooted in a belief dating back centuries —the Assumption teaches that Mary, “having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”

The celebration was presided over by Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of AU, who warmly invited administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and distinguished guests to join in honoring the University’s patroness.
 
The day began with a solemn Holy Mass at the Chapel of St. Louis Marie de Montfort, where hymns, scripture, and prayer created a deeply reverent atmosphere. Following the Mass, the community gathered in front of the Cathedral of Learning for the Crowning Ceremony — a moving tradition in which a garlanded crown is placed upon the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Against a backdrop of golden light and ceremonial pageantry, the procession of robed clergy, altar servers, and student representatives brought a vibrant visual reminder of AU’s Catholic heritage.

Following the crowning, the celebration shifted to the Chaturamuk Pachit Pavilion for a commemorative party. Here, joy mingled with fellowship as the AU family exchanged warm wishes, shared in refreshments, and reflected on the enduring values of faith, unity, and service that Mary’s example inspires.

Assumption Day remains one of the University’s most cherished annual traditions — a day when history, devotion, and community spirit come together under one crown of glory.
