Objectives:

  1. To determine the impact social media on the public perception of the nursing profession.
  2. To develop strategies for nurses to maintain and enhance their professional image online.
  3. To encourage nursing professionals to leverage social media for educational purposes, advocacy, and professional development, while also addressing the risks associated with online visibility.

Event Details:

       Living and learning in today's digital world, social media has become a big part of the society in which everyone could easily reach globalization with a touch. Platforms like Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and Line have gained large numbers of users to be a part of their communities in the past 10 years. Indeed, these platforms facilitate nurses in sharing their knowledge and skills as they are effective learning tools and networking. Meanwhile, people are interested to see more video contents from healthcare workers including nurses.

       This indicates that social media could become a vital part of nursing communities where the nurses can connect and exercise their professionalism. Nurses can use social media for health promotion and health education. However, there's a downside of social media; for example, nurses can be criticism on these platforms, which can affect their professional image. Therefore, the nurses need to use social media wisely while keeping their professional integrity intact. It is challenging for the nurses who would like to apply social media and maintain high standard of nursing image.

       Therefore, our seminar is focusing on understanding how social media affects people's view towards the nursing profession positively and negatively Additionally, this seminar aims to finding the strategies of nurses to show their professionalism online. This seminar anticipates nursing students, teachers, professional nurses, organizations, patients, families, and the community acknowledge nursing image positively. The seminars believe in professionalism, doing the right thing, and speaking up for what's important in nursing, especially in online platforms.

Expected Outcomes:

  1. Increased Awareness: Participants will have a heightened awareness of how social media affects the nursing profession’s image and the importance of maintaining professional integrity online.
  2. Gain more insight in what content is beneficial to share, how to engage with the public professionally, and ways to handle criticism constructively.
  3. Positive Perception Promotion: Through sharing stories of kindness, strength, innovation, and success in nursing, the seminar aims to positively influence public perception of the profession. This includes showcasing how nurses contribute to healthcare beyond their traditional roles.
