Data Protection in Practice: AU Strengthens PDPA Readiness Across Campus

AU trained staff to turn PDPA compliance into real workplace practice.

Assumption University of Thailand (AU) reinforced its institutional commitment to responsible data governance by hosting a training program titled PDPA for AU Workplace: From Compliance to Practice on February 19, 2026 at the Amaret Pitak Room, Suvarnabhumi Campus.

From Policy to Practice

The program was opened by Mr. Sompol Na Songkhla, Legal Advisor and Data Protection Officer (DPO) of AU. In his keynote remarks, he emphasized the University’s strategic focus on effective data protection and the importance of preparing essential documents tailored to each unit’s operations. These included the Record of Processing Activities (ROPA), Privacy Notices, and Consent Forms, all of which serve as critical tools for risk management and institutional trust.

The training reflected AU’s broader goal of moving beyond regulatory awareness toward operational readiness, ensuring that data protection principles are applied consistently across academic and administrative functions.

Building Skills for Real-World Implementation

Designed as an interactive workshop, the program began with registration and a pre-test, followed by practical sessions covering:

    • Development of Record of Processing Activities (ROPA)
    • Drafting Privacy Notices and Consent Forms
    • Implementation of data security measures
    • Preparation of Data Processing Agreements (DPA) for external vendors
    • Incident response planning and management of data subject rights

The sessions were facilitated by the University’s DPO team and legal specialists. Law students enrolled in LLB 4804 Law of Personal Data Protection also supported the program as workshop assistants and presenters, gaining hands-on experience in applied legal practice.

Approximately 100 participants, including administrators, faculty members, and staff representatives from multiple units, attended the training. The initiative aimed to ensure that each department could implement PDPA requirements effectively and in alignment with Thailand’s Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019).

A Culture of Responsibility

The program concluded with a post-test, scenario-based assessment, and a closing ceremony presided over by Dr. Kitikorn Dowpiset, Vice President for Moral Development Education. His remarks reaffirmed the University’s commitment to fostering a culture grounded in legal compliance, ethical responsibility, and sustainable data protection practices.

This training marked an important step in AU’s ongoing transition from regulatory compliance toward practical, institution-wide data protection excellence.
