The Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science (BLNS) at Assumption University of Thailand (AU) reaffirmed its dedication to public health through an impactful outreach program. On November 30, 2024, BLNS faculty members Dr. Pimsiri Bhusiri, Dr. Chavalee Boonto, and Dr. Prapawan Praevanich conducted a health-focused session for 40 students, blending rabies education with activities designed to promote mental wellness and personal development.
Addressing Rabies: A Persistent Challenge in Thailand
Rabies remains a public health concern in Thailand, despite significant progress over the years. While human rabies deaths have decreased from hundreds annually in the 1980s to single digits in recent years, sporadic outbreaks still occur. Notably, rabies-infected animals were discovered in Bangkok’s Prawet district in 2024, underscoring the need for continued education and vigilance.

In this session, BLNS faculty members provided critical knowledge about rabies, including its prevention, symptoms, and treatment. The aim was to equip students with the understanding needed to protect themselves and their communities from this preventable but serious disease.
Promoting Mental Health and Growth
Beyond rabies education, the faculty led activities to enhance mental health, emphasizing resilience, empathy, and personal development. This holistic approach addressed both physical and emotional well-being, ensuring participants left with practical knowledge and a renewed sense of confidence.
A Tradition of Community Service
This initiative exemplifies BLNS’s mission to blend academic expertise with a deep sense of social responsibility. Through education, the school aims to empower communities to make informed decisions and lead healthier lives.
