Bridging Borders Through Faith and Education: Vietnamese Dominican Sisters Visit AU

From Studio Lights to Simulated Flights, a Day of Discovery and Connection

WRITER : THE AU LIBRARY

In a quiet yet meaningful gesture of cross-cultural solidarity, a delegation of sisters from the Vietnamese Dominican Sisters Congregation of St. Catherine of Siena, Thanh Tam, under the Xuan Loc Diocese, visited Assumption University of Thailand (AU)’s Suvarnabhumi Campus on June 24, 2025.

The visit marked the second in a series of international exchanges by Dominican religious congregations seeking to connect with fellow sisters in Thailand and explore sites of ministry and Catholic education. As with the earlier delegation from Houston, Texas, the objective was clear: to witness firsthand the academic and spiritual life cultivated at AU—a place often praised for its commitment to holistic, values-driven learning.

The sisters began their campus exploration at the University Library, a sleek and contemplative space blending tradition and technology. With thoughtful reverence, they explored the quiet reading areas, research collections, and student spaces designed to encourage reflection and discovery. Their presence was a reminder that knowledge, when pursued in the spirit of service, transcends language and geography.

From there, the group visited the VMES Labs, AU’s modern training ground for future aviators and engineers. Inside the Flight Simulator and VMES Labs areas, the sisters observed the fusion of discipline and innovation—technical skill developed under a mission-centered ethos. The experience offered a striking contrast, yet undeniable alignment, with their own educational ministry: shaping minds while nurturing the soul.

The final stop was the University Chapel, where the sisters paused for prayer and silent reflection. In the soft light filtering through stained glass, the spirit of communion was palpable. Though separated by borders, language, and culture, the shared foundation of Catholic identity created an atmosphere of mutual respect and profound kinship.

Their brief visit, humbly intended as a gesture of support and curiosity, left a deep impression on the AU community—one marked by dignity, spiritual grace, and intellectual engagement.
