Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology at Assumption University of Thailand (AU), launched the new academic year with its “First Orientation, Wai Kru Ceremony and Lab Safely “ on June 12, 2025 at the Hua Mak Campus. The full afternoon agenda blended academic insights, cultural tradition, and practical lab safety into a warm welcome for incoming students.



Held in the Seminar Room at Hua Mak Campus, the event opened with a greeting from Asst. Prof. Dr. Pachanee Yasurin, Dean of the Theophane Venard School of Biotechnology. Students were introduced to the school’s mission and structure by Dr. Atittaya Tandhanskul, Asst. Dean for Global Academic Development and Industrial Collaboration followed by a detailed overview of the study plan and advising system presented by Dr. Roungdao Klinjapo, Chairperson of the Food Technology Department. Mr. Amornthip Yongsirithanawat then introduced AU Spark, the University’s student portal, to help new learners navigate academic life.


One of the cultural highlights was the Wai Kru ceremony, a deeply respected Thai tradition. Wai Kru—literally “paying respect to the teacher”—is held at the start of each academic year and symbolizes students’ gratitude to their instructors, acknowledging the importance of wisdom passed from generation to generation. Flowers, incense, and respectful bows are offered during the ritual, reminding all present of the value of humility and learning.


Following a group photo, the event concluded with a lab safety seminar led by Dean Pachanee, emphasizing the importance of safety protocols and professional conduct in the laboratory environment.
