AU Students Distinguish Themselves with Top Honors at “Ambassadors for a Day Contest” to Celebrate “International Women’s Day 2021”

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate the women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.

Celebrated annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • Celebrate women’s achievements
  • Raise awareness about women’s equality
  • Lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • Fundraise for female-focused charities.

The campaign theme for International Woman’s Day 2021 is “Choose to Challenge.” A Challenged world is an alert world. And from challenge comes change.

The Winner of the "Ambassadors for a Day” Competition


Ms. Apichaya Choppradrit
, Department of Business English, AU Theodore Maria School of Arts, Ms. Sumonrat Supkeit, AU Bernadette de Lourdes School of Nursing Science, and Ms.Thamonwan Radompeng, AU Martin de tour School of Management and Economics, emerged among prestigious winners of the “Ambassadors for a Day Contest” recently launched by a group of 11 embassies in Thailand with female ambassadors and 6 International or UN related Organizations to mark International Woman’s Day. 

To celebrate the “International Woman’s Day” which falls on the 8th of March 2021, the contested project invites contestants aged 18 to 25 to upload a three-minute-long video in the social media platform in languages like French, Spanish, German, English, Italian, Norwegian, Dutch, Portuguese, and Hindi describing a social issue affecting women or girls in their communities and explain what they have done or would like to do to improve the situations. Contestants are judged based on how they describe their social issue, presentation and fluency in chosen languages.

I had a chance to make a video clip discussing a social issue that affects women and girls in my community. I am grateful for the opportunity that challenges me to do something new.”

When I first heard about this opportunity, I did not hesitate to give it a try, because I wanted to try something new and challenging so I chose to film a VDO with topic that I was really interested in, victim blaming, and I did not expect anything out of it.

But the Embassy contacted me saying that I have won and I will have a chance to attend a dinner reception and International Women's Day event, I felt very honored and grateful.”

Select winners will job shadow an Ambassador or head of a UN Agency of “International Women’s Day” and experience diplomatic life and the highest levels, including attending public events and participating in Embassy meetings and functions.

Selected among outstanding winners of the competition, the AU Students:  Ms. Apichaya Choppradrit, Ms. Sumonrat Supkeit and Ms. Thamonwan Radompeng are scheduled to attend the important function scheduled on March 7-8, 2021.
