Music Composition: “Innermost” for Jazz Big Band
(บทประพันธ์เพลง “อินเนอร์โมส” สำหรับวงบิกแบนด์แจ๊ส)

Composed by
Asst. Prof. Wg. Cdr. Dr. Woraket Tagosa.

Compositional Concepts

The Music Composition “Innermost” for Jazz Big Band is composed based on the concepts of twentieth century music such as quartal harmony, drop voicings, spread voicing, extended chords, pentatonic scales, modes, improvisation, and jazz melodic manipulation techniques. The main themes are written based on transcription of words and abbreviation letters of the names of persons and places including ABAC (Assumption Business Administration College)”, “RTAF (Royal Thai Air Force)”, “SERM (the author’s father’s name)”, and “CADE (the author’s nick name)”  into musical pitched sounds, as well as a short melodic quotations from the RTAF March”. These melodic ideas are developed and seamlessly combined together to create a new composition for a contemporary jazz big band. The overall composition is written in a complex binary form consisted of four choruses including introduction, sub-sections, transitions, and a long ending. Since, there are not many compositional works of big band jazz music which composed by Thai composers, the author intends to promote this creative work as one of musical aesthetic choices beside popular music which widely available, to show pride to the institutions and his beloved person, and to be the contribution for music knowledge which can be applied in teaching and learning in general.
