AU Welcomes Rev. Bro. Surakit as Chairman of the University Council

A Warm Welcome to the New Chairman

Assumption University of Thailand (AU) marked an important milestone as the university community officially welcomed Rev. Bro.  Surakit Srisrankulwong, f.s.g., Ph.D., after his appointment by the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation as the new Chairman of the Assumption University Council.

Before the opening of University Council Meeting No. 2/2025 at the Salle d’Expo, Hua Mak Campus, AU held a congratulatory ceremony during which Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of AU, presented a flower vase to Rev. Bro. Surakit to honor his new role and extend the warmest welcome on behalf of the university community.

A Vision Rooted in Service and Good Governance

In his inaugural address to the Council, Rev. Bro. Surakit expressed sincere gratitude for the trust placed in him by the St. Gabriel’s Foundation of Thailand and the Ministry. He emphasized his dedication to principled leadership, transparency, and collaborative decision-making. He reaffirmed his commitment to guiding AU toward sustainable development, strengthened academic excellence, and continued relevance in an evolving global higher education landscape.

Council Deliberations That Shape AU’s Future

Under the leadership of the new Chairman, University Council Meeting No. 2/2025 advanced several transformative initiatives. The Council ratified new international Memorandums of Understanding with the University of Foggia in Italy, De Montfort University in the United Kingdom, Arizona State University in the United States, and North South University in Bangladesh. These strategic partnerships expanded AU’s global academic network, fostering joint research, faculty collaboration, and enhanced opportunities for student mobility.

The Council also approved the registration of the AU Credit Bank System with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. This approval strengthened AU’s support for Thailand’s national Lifelong Learning agenda by offering learners more flexible pathways to accumulate credits toward future degree completion.

In addition, the Council endorsed the launch of the Bachelor of Communication Arts in Creative Communication Management, the university’s first fully online international bachelor’s degree program. Designed to meet the needs of modern learners, the program reflects AU’s commitment to innovation in digital education and expanding access to high-quality learning experiences.

To further support academic progression, the Council approved amendments to AU’s academic regulations introducing the “Grade R” (Repeat) system, which replaces the “Grade F” designation for re-registered courses. This student-centered reform reinforced the university’s focus on academic success, learning mastery, and student retention.

A Future Guided by Purpose and Unity

The meeting concluded with a shared vision among the new Chairman, University Council members, and the administration to strengthen AU’s mission as a leading international Catholic institution. Grounded in the spirit of service, collaboration, and compassion, the university stands ready to move forward with confidence as it embraces emerging opportunities and prepares to meet future challenges.
