Resonance Across Borders: China–Thailand Arts Exchange Opens at AU

A landmark exhibition brought Chinese and Thai artistic voices together at Assumption University of Thailand.

Assumption University of Thailand (AU)  officially opened Resonance: China–Thailand Arts Exchange Exhibition on January 17, 2026, transforming the AU  Museum into a vibrant space of artistic dialogue, cultural memory, and shared human expression between two nations bound by centuries of connection.

The opening ceremony welcomed diplomatic representatives, senior academics, and leading figures from prominent art institutions in both countries.

Art as Memory, Dialogue, and Diplomacy

In his address, Rev. Bro. Sirichai Fonseka, f.s.g., Ph.D., President of AU  reflected on the enduring role of art and culture in shaping relations between the two nations.

“Arts and culture have played a vital role between the peoples of China and Thailand for over centuries. Through arts and culture, we discover our roots and the evolution of societal constructs, as well as an appreciation of our diverse-yet-integrated livelihoods.”

He emphasized that while the year-long celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relations marks a modern milestone, the deeper relationship between the two countries extends far beyond formal diplomacy. “While the celebration of 50 years of diplomatic relationship between China and Thailand marks another dynamic chapter in modern history, it also allows us, art academies and universities, to recreate an exhibition which showcases artistic talents by artists from ten institutes.”

Reflecting on the exhibition’s spirit and purpose, he added:

Resonance truly speaks not only for the richness and variety of artistic displays, but also for the enhancement of goodwill each of us has for one another.”

Rev. Bro. Sirichai further highlighted AU’s pride in its international role.

“It is indeed a great privilege for Assumption University of Thailand  to co-host with Hebei Academy of Fine Arts to stage Resonance: China–Thailand Arts Exchange Exhibition in Hebei, China, and in Thailand. Our pride is augmented through collaboration with four renowned Chinese academies of fine arts and four distinguished Thai universities that have laid a solid foundation for the development of arts and culture.”

He concluded with a vision for the exhibition’s lasting impact:

“AU hopes that Resonance serves as an instrument to promote mutual understanding through shared human expression, leading to stronger international ties, new artistic inspiration, and mutual benefits among all.”

A Spectrum of Contemporary Expression

The exhibition brought together leading institutions from both countries, presenting works that ranged from traditional painting and sculpture to digital and graphic design, interactive installations, video performance, and ceramic craftsmanship.

Offering insight into the exhibition’s creative breadth, Dr. Apichart Intravisit, Director of the Master’s Program in Art and Design at the Graduate School of Humanities, emphasized the collective joy and artistic scale of the project.

“This art exhibition truly resonates the collective efforts and cohesive expression of joy over the friendship celebration between the two nations who have long cherished common values and cultural heritage over centuries.”

He described Resonance as a convergence of artistic forms. “Resonance—2025 International Exchange Exhibition vibrates with a large amplitude of aesthetic works, ranging from traditional paintings to sculpture, from digital and graphic designs to interactive installations, and from video performance to ceramic craftsmanship.”

Beyond visual impact, he underscored the exhibition’s deeper intention. “The exhibition wishes to evoke responses that continue to enrich mutual peace, harmony, and profound understanding, using diverse and eclectic art forms and cultural presentation as instruments.”

Dr. Apichart also highlighted the collaborative pride of Thai institutions participating on an international stage. “Five academic institutes from Thailand are proud to represent Thai artisanship in this prestigious forum, standing alongside notable Chinese artists whose works are exhibited side by side with ours.”

He concluded with appreciation for the partnership that made the exhibition possible. “Assumption University of Thailand is deeply grateful to Hebei Academy of Fine Arts for their hospitable gestures and tireless efforts in bringing this exhibition to life.”
