A Nation’s Memory, A University’s Tribute: AU Honors His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great

WRITER: THE AU LIBRARY

Assumption University of Thailand (AU) paused on Thursday, October 9, 2025, to remember His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, the beloved monarch whose vision, humility, and lifelong devotion to the Thai people continue to shape the nation. Ceremonies were held at both the Suvarnabhumi Campus and the Hua Mak Campus, uniting faculty, staff, and students in solemn tribute.

At Suvarnabhumi Campus, the community gathered in the King’s Room of the Cathedral of Learning. The service opened with the laying of a wreath, followed by a remembrance speech. The ceremony concluded in stillness, as participants stood together for 89 seconds of silence, a symbolic gesture echoing the years of His Majesty’s reign.

Later in the afternoon, the tribute was mirrored at Hua Mak Campus, where members of the AU community assembled at Salle d’ Expo in Assumption Hall. Once again, the placing of the wreath and the remembrance speech marked the centerpiece of the ceremony, before the community bowed their heads in unison for another 89 seconds of silence.

Throughout the day, participants were encouraged to wear yellow attire, the color long associated with devotion to His Majesty, creating a sea of yellow across both campuses.

The ceremonies, organized by the Office of Thai Art and Culture, Student Affairs, underscored the University’s commitment to honoring His Majesty’s enduring legacy. His vision for development, his compassion for all people, and his profound impact on education and society remain guiding lights for future generations.

As silence fell across both campuses, it was not merely absence of sound but presence of memory: a community united in gratitude for a King whose life embodied service, sacrifice, and love for his people.
