Assumption University of Thailand (AU) had the honor of joining the University of Birmingham’s 125th Anniversary Celebration, marking more than a century of academic excellence and global partnerships.

The exclusive Partners and Alumni 125th Anniversary Celebration was held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at The Westin Grande Sukhumvit Bangkok, uniting alumni, faculty, and institutional partners to reflect on the university’s remarkable legacy and future aspirations.
Representing AU’s Office of International Affairs (OIA), Mr. Quamrul and Ms. Tien Phan attended the milestone event. They joined distinguished guests in celebrating the strong ties between the University of Birmingham and its international partners, including AU.
1900–2025: 125 Years of the University of Birmingham
Founded by Royal Charter in 1900 under Queen Victoria, the University of Birmingham has built a proud legacy of driving change and shaping society. For 125 years, the institution has fostered a global community of leaders and problem-solvers who advance knowledge across disciplines.
Its research has consistently broken boundaries; from advancing life-changing technologies and improving global health, to connecting cultures, building a thriving planet, and fostering a fairer world.
As the University of Birmingham celebrates this landmark year, it looks to the future with ambition: to redefine what is possible, to unlock new potential, and to continue shaping how the world works.
Inspiring Voices
The evening opened with a keynote address by Dr. Ruth Foster, Regional Manager for South East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Americas. Dr. Foster highlighted the university’s enduring mission of “driving change and shaping society,” emphasizing commitments spanning advanced technology, global health, and social equity. She noted that Birmingham’s future will focus on “unlocking new potential” while building on its storied past.
A heartfelt address followed from Dr. Cristina Sambrook, Director of MBA Programmes, who expressed her joy in celebrating with alumni and partners. Alumni from the master’s and doctoral programs then shared touching reflections on how their Birmingham experience had shaped their personal and professional journeys.
Strengthening Ties
For AU, the evening was more than a commemoration—it was a reaffirmation of the deep friendship and academic collaboration between the two universities. Alumni and guests exchanged memories, rekindled bonds, and envisioned new opportunities for partnership.
AU looks forward to further collaboration with the University of Birmingham, including expanded student and faculty exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing that enriches both institutions.
